The City of Guttenberg has received the 2013 Community Award of Excellence from Keep Iowa Beautiful in recognition of "community volunteers and city officials for the outstanding beautification efforts of the community and the Mississippi River riverfront."

The Community Award was one of three awards Governor Terry Branstad presented at the State Capitol on Wednesday, March 27. Guttenberg Mayor Russell Loven accepted the award on behalf of the city.

The Governor also presented corporate and organization awards. He then  proclaimed April as Keep Iowa Beautiful Month with a ceremonial proclamation signing.

Mayor Loven, in announcing the award at the April 1 city council meeting, commented, "It's a real nice honor. We are pleased that people outside our community think it is beautiful, too."

The KIB awards programs is designed to recognize people and organizations that have gone the extra mile to make Iowa communities more attractive places to live, work and raise a family.

Keep Iowa Beautiful was established in 2000, becoming the 23rd State Affiliate of Keep America Beautiful.  It is a 501c3 charitable organization working with Iowa citizens, neighborhoods, communities and regions in improving the quality, beauty and cleanliness of the State.
