Incorporated in 1850 by German immigrants, Guttenberg has a rich history as a Mississippi River town. Learn more about the button industry, steamboat trade, the Lock and Dam system and Guttenberg's history when you tour the last remaining original Lockmaster House on the Upper Mississippi. We also have 18 sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a rare facsimile of the Gutenberg Bible, which is on display at the Guttenberg Public Library.

The City of Guttenberg is part of the Clayton Ridge Community School District, which has 1:1 technology in grades PK-12 and a 98.1% graduation rate. Clayton Ridge also partners with area businesses to offer worked-based learning opportunities and offers 27 dual credit college courses through Northeast Iowa Community College as well.
